Colorado or Bust!

 Thursday night, Robb and I started out on our journey.  We headed to Nebraska to stay the night and get a fresh start in the morning for Colorado.  Except for the rain and gale force winds, and for me taking a wrong highway across Iowa...  We got there at a decent time and got a good night's sleep.  If you can say 4:15am is a good time to wake up.  I just can NOT sleep in a bed that isn't mine!

Friday morning, we picked up my parents at 6am sharp!  They were ready to go, except for a few things, but soon we were on our way with our trusty GPS at our side.

Do you know how boring Nebraska is to drive across?  We took back roads until half way then the same old, same old I80 the rest.  Mom and I enjoyed each others company in the back seat and I showed her a compilation of Leon pictures from birth to now.  She had been there for some of them, but it was neat to see how big he was getting.  They don't get to see him very often.

I also did the handsewing on the hem of my dress I was going to wear for the wedding on Saturday.

We got into Colorado and left the main high way again.  This time to find the old homestead of one of Mom's friends from college.  We got a picture of Mom and I in front of it to send to her old friend.

About a mile down the gravel road, I found this old dilapidated house.  AWESOME!!!  Michelle! I took this with you in mind!

 

There were working oil wells all around down there!  Cool!

Then we found a little house that Mom used to rent during her first year of teaching.

Got to see the school house too!

Then onto the next town about 6 miles away to have lunch with an old friend.  I didn't have the camera ready in time and missed their initial hug.  So sweet!

Can you believe the little cafe we ate at had Rocky Mountain Oysters on their menu?  We didn't order that.

After lunch, we headed on to Boulder.  As we got closer and closer to our destination, we started seeing the mountains low over the horizon.  When Mom and I noticed, Robb and Dad let us know they'd been talking about it for the last 15 minutes.  hmm.  We were busy!

But the mountains were beautiful!  Boulder is nestled in the foothills so we got some up close and personal views!

We checked into our hotel, which was right next to the University of Colorado dormitories.  College kids and bikes EVERYWHERE.  The hotel was very plush and swank!  Deep polished wood and trim everywhere!  It kind of reminded me of the elegance of the Titanic and the grandness of the hotel from The Shining.  Beautiful with a little creepiness built in.

And the rooms were gorgeous.  However Robb and my room didn't have cold water...  Brushing your teeth felt like you were sanitizing them.  We had to get ice from the ice machine and let it melt into a cup of water until we could drink it.

We got settled into the rooms and then Robb and I left to meet up with OUR college buds for the night.  My brother was going to stop by and pick up my parents for the rehearsal dinner.
