Snow Joke.

So yesterday afternoon, I was in a work conference call meeting.  My office is right at the front of the house, but in the garage, so I can see everyone coming up to the house, but have to run inside to answer the door.

Connected but separate.  It works...

Anyway, in the meeting, I'm suddenly distracted by 2 young boys that are walking up to the door carrying shovels over their shoulders.  We got a blizzard the night before and into the morning of yesterday.  The wind had mostly died down by this time and I was planning on running the snow blower at 5pm when I got off work.

But here came these boys.  I knew the girls were inside and left them to turn them away.  When suddenly I heard a bunch of scraping around on the front porch and the boys suddenly ran out in front of my window shoveling snow off the path like mad!

I really started to wonder what the girls had agreed upon to pay them...  We have a 3 car-wide driveway...  I took a quick break and went inside.  Meri was the only there digging money out of her purse.  Come to find out that the boys are the next door neighbors!  I didn't recognize them!  Haven't seen them since last summer!  They're around ages 10 and 12.  But they'd offered to clear our driveway for $10!  It's seriously a $20 or more job...   But okey!

I went back to work and checked their progress now and again.  Then I saw their dad come out and show them how to use his snow blower in our drive.

I'm sure he thought that this is ONE way to get McVal to clear her driveway and sidewalks quickly...  But anyway, it was done.  And I didn't have to pay for it!  Meri even threw in a $2 tip!

The camera battery died this morning or you'd have a more current pic of snow.  This one was from 2009...

I watched them later walk down the street looking for another lazy person who didn't want to come out into the cold and shovel.  They didn't have any other takers as not too many people were home from work yet.

Reminded me tho of when my sister Ruth Ann and I went out to make some money.  I was around 13-14.  My mom dropped us off in a snowy neighborhood and my sister and I went door to door with our shovels looking for people to let us clear their walks and driveway.  We had one taker, a very kind, little old lady.  Ruth Ann and I shoveled and suddenly I felt like fainting.  Not a good feeling...  I asked the lady if I could sit down in her house for a minute, leaving my sister outside to do the work.

It was NOT a trick on my sister!!  I truly felt ill.  It may have been all the bending and lifting and throwing...  and worky stuff... But anyway, I got hot cocoa inside while Ruth Ann worked away outside.  Then we called home and someone came and got us.

Didn't make much money and the sister insisted most of it go to her...  hmm..  Oh well.

I'm sure that she still complains about you leaving her to shovel.
My sister and I volunteered to babysit 4 kids for an entire weekend when we were young. She was there an hour and then decided she didn't want to do it. She left and I watched all of the kids all weekend.

They don't come and knock on my door any more. Mainly because there are so many cars in my drive way, there is hardly any snow!

$10? I wouldn't shovel anything for $10! Of course, I guess I have to shovel for free...
