Small Town daze

This weekend is the annual festival of our town, or rather the town near us!  We've participated just about every year as long as we've lived here, in one way or another, even if it's just sitting in our zone on the parade route and gathering up candy that no nearby kid ran and grabbed.  Or if it's being in the town musical!  I was actually a nun in the chorus of the Sound of Music and now have lots of extra "sisters" in town.  For a while I was in several of the musicals or dinner theaters, as extras or behind the scenes.

Meri will be marching in the middle school band and Maddy will be enjoying the parade from a lawn chair.  She hasn't done that since before middle school and earlier.  We're not sure which side of the street will give us the best vantage point for pictures yet of Meri... so I may have to run out into the street for a good shot.  The director won't mind, he's a friend from church...

On second thought, he might mind...

Here are a few pics of when the kids were in the kiddie parade or parade from years back and more current.

Leon gets to be in the kiddie parade tonight!!!  It's only 2 blocks long, so he can either ride a toy, wagon, walk or be carried, but he HAS to wear a costume!  Preferably something in the ethnicity of the town, so he'll be Superman.  At the end of the "parade", the kids get a goody bag and I'll enjoy that on the way home.

Then the big parade tomorrow!  The one where you bring an ice cream bucket to put your candy into.  A niece from a nearby college is bringing a few friends and will be enjoying it with us.  And if we're lucky, we'll get some of a friend's fabulous kumla and ham!  She makes the BEST!  She used to serve it on a stick, but it's kind of crumbly, so I prefer a bowl...

What's kumla?  It's a potato dumpling mixed with tiny ham bits, then has hunks of ham with ham gravy over it.  I've been told that the official description of it is potato dumplings that sit like a rock.  And they did the first time I ever had it.  But R's are light and wonderful!

Can't wait!
