I've been getting gritchy lately... about a couple people's housekeeping in my very own home. BUT suddenly was humbled by a Bible verse.
Matthew 7:5
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
So... here's my plan... I'm doing some sorting & pitching of boxes in my garage that have stacked up TBS (to be sorted) (In my case it was MUCH later...) I figured I better clean my own house before I start THAT conversation!
I was also inspired by Sonya, who had recently gone into shock at a garage sale of a hoarder. Most of the stuff I hoard however, is not brand new stuff with tags still attached. It's memories.
There I've said it. I'm a memory hoarder. Let's see if they make a show out of THAT!
My husband has called me a photo hoarder for many years now and I still have no idea what he's talking about. Well, it might be because as soon as the kids school pictures show up, he only gets one if he jumps on the packet right away. Otherwise it ends up on my desk for years on end until it becomes fodder for each kids memory box... and I do have those...
In going through some of these boxes, I have found the most interesting memories! Clothing from their youth that I especially hold dear like a little dress that I made or a t-shirt from their preschool that Leon can wear soon. Old sports photos, old penpal letters, envelopes with little nice notes from fellow classmates, certificates, report cards, cards from the kids, an old ceramic arm cast from when Ryan was 2, creative writing things from school. It's been a trip down memory lane for sure!
I'm determined to get them in some semblance of order. They'll maybe NEVER get into a scrapbook, but at least in a box labeled just for that kid and then THEY can do the memory lane thing someday when they can appreciate it.
And if they can't appreciate it, then their memory box can be dumped into my memory box.
It's bigger anyway...

I do the same thing and think that the sons will love having them when they are older.
I was so wrong.......
Now I have tons of crap that I find hard to get rid of because of the memories BUT there was a show on tv, one of those cleaning shows and the host said something important that I've been living by: Memories are good only if you have the room for them. If it's preventing you from living your live to the fullest (and that includes your home) then it's time to purge it.
Oh, how I needed THAT Bible verse this very day! I am a hoarder of everything. NOt bad enough to be on the show (yet), but I am a memory hoarder-craft supply & fabric hoarder- magazine hoarder.. digital hoarder (via Pinterest).. and so on. Lord, help me. That is a darling picture. Is that Leon's dada? :) Best wishes in your cleaning endeavors! -Tammy
All the memory things I made/kept for my children are still here in my house! Heaven help me. They won't take them home!
Thanks for the link love!
I bet after you sort for a while, you will be cursing my name! I curse me quite often.
I have slowly whittled away at our stuff through the years. Now that Anna isn't living here, it is easy to keep her room organized. Mind you, she still has 4 bins of craft crap, as I lovingly call it, under her bed. Once she gets her own place, she can take ti home with her. Im slowly starting to realize that she will never be moving back in. Den seems fine with that. It makes me sad until she stays here for a week or two and then I realize that her living on her own is a great thing!
