Meri was up almost all night on Friday night caring for and feeding meal replacement to the other sick puppy. I spelled her around 5am. We had some hope Saturday morning.
A special cousin arrived with her parents late Friday night and spent the whole day with Meri, letting her cry on her shoulder. a lot. about the first puppy.
During the birthday lunch for my mother-in-law, Meri went to check on the puppy, then came back to get me, visibly shaken. I took her upstairs and she told me that the puppy had died. Too sad. She locked herself and the puppy in my room and cried during the cake and ice cream.
That evening after the company had left, Meri and a bestie, who happens to live next door, dug a hole next to my rhubarb and we had a "Walking Dead" funeral. Complete with everyone in attendance throwing in a little dirt while saying something nice about the pup. Leon threw dirt clods. Then Robb played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
Everyone down and up the street know we're in mourning...
Pay no attention to my terrible looking yard! It's spring! It looks like that everywhere!
This was the best send off and closure that Meri could have had.
The other pups are doing great and we started them on soggy puppy food that very night. They love it.
We won't find out what caused this malady until later this week when the lab results get back. But Meri has learned never take anything for granted and cherish what you have, because you never know when you'll lose it.
In the meanwhile... cuteness abounds!
This is the puppy that Meri will be keeping. His name is Reedus and can partially type his own name.
What a smartie pants!
