On Friday, my dad got admitted back to the hospital to find out the cause of some breathing problems and some fluid around the heart. It was resolved and he is out now. WHEW! A sister from Chicago came back for the weekend and stayed with him and spent some time with Mom. Thanks Teresa! Another came from Kentucky to be with them for the week. Thanks Tammy! All day Friday though, I wondered if I should head over. But I'll wait until there is a need for me and for a free weekend. We don't want to overwhelm either of my parents!
Anyway, ON to Easter weekend at the McVal house!
On Saturday morning, we followed some directions from this video and dyed Easter eggs with silk.
Step 1. Cut silk into squares big enough to wrap around an egg. .
Step 2. Cut white cotton into squares big enough to wrap around egg wrapped in silk.
Secure it with a rubber band.
Step 3. Boil them for 20 minutes.
Step 4. Let cool and then unwrap your little beauties!
Me thinks one of those scarves was NOT silk... Can you tell which ones were done with that scarf?
Earlier, I had boiled several for the girls to actually color. They wrapped some in lace and dyed them. Some of the eggs turned out well, some were total flops.
So they doctored them up a bit and used their creative juices to get the eggs to be totally awesome.
And they were.
Here are the after effects of the dying...
The rest of the day was spent doing laundry, raking the rest of the fall leaves out of the lavender so the Easter eggs could be hidden in style. Also helped Leah alter a dress that she'd bought.
Leon came home late afternoon and got spoiled properly by his aunts and friend. He was VERY intrigued on why the Easter bunny was storing a huge bowl of plastic eggs on our dining room table...
And why the girls hands were not looking quite right.

Happy Easter my friend, I hope your dad gets better, it is so hard when parents are sick.

I think I saw that video somewhere - cool beans! It's so nice your daughters (and friend) still enjoy being crafty on the holidays!

Glad to hear your Dad is doing better!
The silk eggs are very cool! Now I'm going to have to start saving all my silk scraps, even the teeny ones...
I used to love to dye eggs. It has been a long time since I did them. The silk ones are beautiful.
