Saturday: Meri, Leon and I got up early and after dropping the dogs off at the kennel, headed to Minnesota. We pulled into town and stopped at a store for Meri to pick up a special surprise for Maddy. Apparently the cafeteria 15 slice toaster took a nose dive and Maddy was at a loss as to how to get her bagels toasted in time for class. Meri wanted to surprise her.
While in the parking lot waiting for Meri, Leon and I got a phone call from Maddy. "Where ARE you??" Leon took the phone and told her that Meri was buying her a toaster.
"SSSHH!! It's a surprise!!"
"She's buying you a surprise toaster!" So the surprise was a bust...
She couldn't keep it in her dorm anyway. So we took it home. Our toaster died yesterday, so we moved hers in! Thanks Maddy!
Anyway, back to Saturday.
We took Maddy out for lunch at a tiny Ma & Pa cafe that some would say would be perfect for a scene in Children of the Corn. But the food was good and no one died! Then we took Leon to the local park and let him run off some steam. He ran, but still had lots of steam left.
Then got checked into the hotel so Meri, who was still feeling icky from her sinus infection, and Leon could take a nap. Maddy and I packed up a few bins and got them loaded into my car. We also went and picked up the storage shed key for when she gets into the serious "I'm moving out of my dorm" mode. She'll leave a bunch of her stuff there over the summer. Why bring it home??
We let Meri sleep for a little longer while Maddy, Leon and I went over to HyVee to pick up a few things and some rootbeer that they make there! YUM!! It's gone now.
We all took Maddy back to campus so she could get dressed and in makeup for the play. While we waited to get in, we checked out the game room and Leon made some friends. Of two pool balls... He named them Batman and Robin and they had a blast getting thrown across the pool table, getting in the way of Meri and my "game". Then whenever he felt like it, he'd pull out the balls that we'd already put in pockets and throw them back on the table too.
Then he'd run over to the couches with Batman and Robin and say, "Good job balls!"
Yay for the play!!! Leon was SO looking forward to see Maddy be a duck!
The pre-show was a hoot and Leon got to dance the crazy Banana dance as well as learn others.
The other ducklings taught them how to act like ducks.
He got to meet a cow...
Actually several... Since we had an "in" in the play, Leon was one of the lucky kids chosen to do a little Cow Tipping on stage! They didn't touch the cows but yelled to wake them up. The video is below.
So much fun.
It did turn out that Maddy was a bully duck who changed her tune and became friends with the ugly duckling.
The finale was jam packed with tons of songs and dancing. One of the videos is below the picture.
Then after festivities, Leon and I waited for Maddy, Matthew and Meri back at the hotel.
To be continued...
