YEARS ago, when Maddy was around 3 years old, I used to make waffles from scratch every Sunday morning. It was my families favorite breakfast and I enjoyed making them.
Some mornings, Robb would send Maddy upstairs to wake me up by whispering "w a s s l e s..." in my ear. It was pretty effective and cute. She had a speech therapist later... darn, I miss that "accent" of hers.
But anyway, I don't make them much anymore. Meri doesn't like waffles nor cake. Go figure! We think for her future wedding, we'll serve ice cream cake instead. She's 15, so no concrete plans yet.
But here is the recipe. It's from the Better Homes and Garden's New Cook Book that got 27.3 years ago for our wedding. It''s not so new anymore... Looks pretty grungy and some pages are pulled out and stuck in on the wrong spot. But I still love it. My first real cook book.
Waffles page 88 of said book
You'll need 3 bowls.
bowl 1 - mix together
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
bowl 2
2 egg yolks
1 3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup cooking oil or shortening
bowl 3
2 egg whites
1) Use a hand mixer and whip the egg whites in bowl 3 until they form stiff peaks.
2) Transfer the mixer over to bowl 2 and mix it all up until combined.
3) pour bowl 2 into bowl 1 and mix gently. Leaving a few lumps is ok.
4) pour bowl 3 (egg whites) into bowl 1 and fold in with a plastic spatula. Do not over mix.
Then spray your favorite waffle iron with some Pam or equivalent. Use however much is appropriate for your iron and cook. Our waffle iron has Pooh and Tigger on it. Pooh (not poo) on one side and Tigger on the other. I got it for my birthday one year to replace a wedding waffle iron we'd had for 20 years and was falling apart but we still used it.
What is your favorite breakfast to make?

can't say I am huge waffles fan. I eat cold cereal everyday for breakfast. Scrambled eggs would be a nice treat with toast.......
that's the way Ava and Nora say waffles. Love it.
And the Pooh reference reminded me of the Tim Hawkins routine talking about a kid's cookbook called, "Cooking with Pooh." Yes, he holds it up and that's what it says. ;)
