Goodbye and Goodbye

We moved Maddy into her dorm on Saturday.  Robb left earlier so he could stop somewhere for work and was going to meet us there.  Maddy, Meri, Leon and I picked up a slushy for Matthew and stuck it in the cooler to keep it cold until we met up at the college.  It was half way melted by the time we got there.

About 20 minutes on the interstate and we realized that we'd forgotten the key to the storage unit.  So we turned around.  45 minutes later, we finally passed that exit a second time and were on our way!  Leon only had to wee wee in a ditch once! Thank you to one of the girls for documenting that one...

Finally met up with Robb and Matthew close to 1pm.  Leon had a great nap so he was wide awake and ready to help.

Unpacking actually went pretty quickly!  All of her clothes were sorted and in vacuum seal bags that made unpacking a snap.  When we got there, we sent Robb, Matthew and Meri off to the storage unit to get her futon.  That was a challenge for them!  The futon had been the first thing entered and coincidentally the only thing Maddy put into storage.  Friends filled up the rest of the unit and all of their stuff was in front of the futon.  So the guys had to pull out everything to retrieve it.

Only after I sat down to put it all together was when we found out that her roommate last year had dropped all the bolts into one of her boxes, which may or may not be in the storage unit...  So it sits until this next weekend, when Leah will be stopping to pick up her things.  She either finds them or next time we're there, we'll buy Maddy a new futon.  Or duct tape.

Leon mostly jumped from one lofted bed to the other or ran up and down the hall peeking into the empty rooms.

The biggest priority in moving into a dorm room is of course getting the tv/computer network set up.
Robb was in charge of that.
You have to have Netflix at college.  You just HAVE to for all the binge watching between classes and sleep.

And don't forget decorating...  Maddy got all her inspirational notes stuck on the walls.  It was kind of weird being the ONLY people on our floor.  Being an RA is pretty special!

We got done in time to go to an early dinner with Matthew's parents and sisters.  A yummy chicken/pizza joint nearby.  Good thing they stuck us in a quiet corner.  Leon was rambunctious and flirted mightily with Matthew's sisters.

And poor Matthew!  He had hurt his back earlier in the summer and we hurt it again by making him carry boxes into the dorm...  dang.  I hope he's feeling better now.

This week has been a blur.  I've been busy with work, getting the house ready for an appraisal and dealing with a death.  Leon's other grandma Amy passed away this week.  He doesn't understand it all yet but is happy that Amy is in heaven.  It's doubtful that there will be a service for her.  Her boyfriend brought up a bunch of toys that she would have wanted Leon to have.  I guess this was all on Tuesday.

I took that afternoon off and Meri and I hit a matinee.  Our teeny hurrah before school starts. Came home feeling sick from all the popcorn and M&Ms but we had a good time and it was a much needed forced break from the grieving.  We're going to miss Amy.

So sorry Leon lost a grandma, very sad. Love the joint effort putting Maddy's room together - I used to stick about a hundred inspirational quotes beside my teacher's desk - they really helped me get through a rough couple of years. Her display is MUCH neater than my haphazard efforts though :) I hope she has a great year.
