Scandalous Weekends

The weekend started with so much promise!  But then Meri got called in to work.  She was bummed because she wanted to watch The Visit with me that night.  We did after she got home.  So it was a later night than usual.  I'd sent Leon upstairs with Grandpa to watch his latest craze, THUNDERCATS!  That was Robb's show when he was in college.  Ten guys anxiously trying to get back to the rented house in time to watch Thundercats on time.  So now Leon wants to be called Liono.  Leono in my book!

Anyway, I had spoiled the ending for Meri for The Visit several weeks ago when it was in the theaters.  She was very upset with me.  I hadn't seen it but had heard something about it and apparently that tidbit of info ruined it for her.  That didn't stop her from asking for the dvd on her birthday though, while we were out shopping...  So we'd planned the evening.

The Visit is actually pretty funny, yet suspenseful and sometimes scary, even when you know the spoiler!  So it wasn't a loss at all.  Plus I got buttery, salty popcorn out of the deal, so yay me!

Leon and his daddy finally put together the gingerbread house.

It looked awesome for all of 5 minutes before the frosting softened up and then it slid apart.

I'm thinking Super Glue for sticking together next year.  Who's going to eat it anyway??

On Saturday, I had so many things I wanted to do!  The garbage run was going to wait, but probably shouldn't have...  I'll get to that this week some time.  In place of that, I did a ton of grocery shopping and came home to have the menfolk unload the car while I scrambled on putting things away.

Then the Christmas tree HAD to come down!  It was already laying in pieces around the living room, but because I ended up throwing away the boxes this year, I had to come up with another plan to store them.  After I sewed together 5 handy dandy huge bags to wrap each section up in, I found that there was no way I could get them above the garage unless I cut a bigger hole in the ceiling, and THAT wasn't going to happen.  So for now, they're just "in" the garage until I come up with a better place to store them.  And it was 4 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, so those weren't the days to be working out there.  So the living room is back in working order and all the tree sheddings have been vacuumed up.  Whew!

I was anxious to get sewing on Meri's Sweetheart dress but the pattern just shipped on Friday and wasn't here yet.  So I found some fabric in my stash to make another dress for Maddy with the 2004 pattern that I'd made when she was home.

Wrinkly stuff!  But very pretty.  It needs the HIGHEST setting on the iron to smooth it out.

I got a lot done on it Saturday afternoon and by the time Meri made it home from work, I was up to the zipper but didn't have one handy.  She and I headed to JoAnn's Fabric before they closed.

For her Sweetheart dress, she found some deep red satiny stuff that she likes the "wrong" side of and we'll make her Sweetheart dress with that.  Remember this dress?

It's the exact same fabric...  If I looked hard enough in my stash, I've probably got enough leftover to make the new dress, but Meri is not willing to admit that this is the same fabric.  It would bring back too many bad memories...  So we're in denial and using the wrong side of that stuff!
 It will be beautiful!!!

Sunday, after church, Robb and I ran Leon down to his mom's and then went out to eat.  A DATE, if you will!  Fazolis, but hey, extra breadsticks!!!  Then back to the house where I worked on Maddy's dress more.  The zipper is in and one side seam.  Just a couple seams left and then to the finishing touches of hems and whatnot.  I plan to do a better job on this one and not skip corners!

I went with Meri to her 4H meeting.  They went bowling!  I got to visit with some other mothers of college kids, so that was fun.  Meri wasn't feeling it but played anyway.

We got home to a crock pot of roast beef and a house that smelled wonderful!  And had forgotten to go see my bestie, so Meri and I ran out there for a little bit before dinner.  In the movie, The Visit, the grandpa there reminded Meri and I strongly of Mike.  He didn't really LIKE to be compared to a creepy grandpa, but when you're as picked on as much as I am out there, it's totally ok to pick back!

Anyway, back to work.  I plan to work on Maddy's dress over lunch and maybe take some photos before I ship it off to her.  OH!  And I discovered that this thing is see though...
Oops!  I might have to whip up a slip to send along...

You're really fast at sewing. It takes me forever to decide on a pattern, then fabric, then begin sewing. Perfectionist things make me stall. Blah.
