Murphy's Law

I told both girls that they would get custom made dresses as an additional Christmas present from me.  So Maddy and I poured through the massive amounts of Burda magazines and found a "teacher" dress from, I think, 2004.  We'd have to shorten it of course...  I don't have a pic of it, sorry!  Neither in the book or on her.  This was over Christmas break and we got it done just before she went back to Minnesota.

I got the everything put together except for the annoying finishing hemming, binding at the neck, etc and that's when I had her try it on.  Whoops!  The sleeve caps went WAY out past her shoulders.  There was no way to fix it gracefully without taking it apart, so I took it apart.  Reset the sleeves in about 1.5 inches and took the sides in by a couple inches too.  But then I put in the binding around the neck and thinking I was being clever, used the selvage as the binding.  If you're a sewist, then you know that that's not on the bias...  If I was a better sewist, I'd have remembered that...  As it stands, I didn't remember that, so the neckline looked wonky.  After trying it on her again, I made an adjustment to the neckline and it's more a boat neck now.

She'll wear a jacket over it.

So now I'm on to Meri's Sweetheart dress!!!  I tore the house apart looking for this Vogue pattern # 1371.  I have the number memorized now.  COULD not find it.  I did find the bag of leftover fabric from when I made Meri's confirmation dress out of it though!

I'm pretty dang organized...

So we stopped in at JoAnns and found the last pattern they had.  Wrong size.  AND they're discontinuing it so we had to order directly from Vogue Patterns online.  I just KNOW that as soon as I have the pattern cut out and the dress mostly done, we'll find the pattern in a drawer or a random box with toys or something...

Sounds like me. Exactly. When shopping at IKEA with Rebekah on New Year's Eve, I came across a lovely tall, skinny file cabinet that was perfect for patterns and it was on sale! But I was being good and only had $50 to spend, so I left it. I've been kicking myself ever since. I do have an old store pattern cabinet, but it was too big and bulky. My husband inherited it for the shop. Now I look at it with envy every now and then. The solution to all my pattern problems!!

Sluggy is rude and a bit funny. Don't tell her I said that.
Your girls are so lucky, I super glued a swimsuit that was coming apart once.

Yup, that's what will happen. Definitely. I searched high and low for the luggage strap that I knew I had and used in 2014. But no couldn't find it for last year's trip so bought another one. Guess what I found within days of getting home. Yup.
