Surprising Developments!

Maddy and Matthew were traveling home on Saturday and we expected them by noon.  As Robb stepped out of the bedroom to head downstairs at 6:30am Saturday morning, Maddy waved from the couch.  She and Matthew were camped out on the couches and apparently had just arrived about 5 minutes before.

WHOOPS!  Better be completely dressed before coming downstairs!!!

What a nice surprise!  But they were exhausted from having been up all night, either at a cross country track meet or from the journey itself.  So Matthew napped on the couch while we visited around him.  Leon was pretty riled up having his "BRUDDER" here and was frustrated that Matthew wasn't playing much that morning.  Maddy stayed awake for the morning though and those two had a great time until Matthew woke up, then Leon monopolized their time.

We also had a friend from college and his wife for lunch so the house was hopping, or napping if you could.

Those two were able to grab another nap after lunch.
Leon was surprised to see they were still sleeping even after he woke up from his.

While they all napped that afternoon, I made some more butterfinger bars and Robb got the grill working for the evening's feast.

I am thinking the candy tastes better as little balls rather than bars.  Is that weird?  I think it has to do with me rolling them out into the bars and smashing the melted candy corn so it wasn't as flaky.
It was still PRETTY good...

After having a super secret steak night, I started the bonfire in the fire pit.  The "easy" lighting log didn't light very well at all and when I found I had no newspaper, I threw a smidge of gas on it.

WWHHOOFF!  It took off and then burned well from then on.

I still have my eyebrows.

So does Meri!

And we still have chocolate bar chunks that had been dropped on the cement out there still out there.

Plus partially melty marshmallows.

Can't wait for the next thunderstorm to clean those out of here!

We did the typical s'mores and the obligatory Kumbaya song and then just chitchatted.  The weather was great for it!

Then the kids played hide and seek on the grass and around the cars.

I dumped some water on the log and the next morning, it was still smoldering.  YIKES!  I should have soaked it more...

And as usual, I've got lots to do today to get caught up from a three day weekend.  Talk at you later and remember...
Be dressed when you go downstairs.

Just in case.
