So, over the weekend when I was determined to sew one of the many dresses that I'll be sewing in the next several months, I started on Meri's prom dress. I've got til April for this one...
I had already done a mock up the previous week of the bodice and had some tweaks to make to the pattern. So I redid it with the changes and then added the skirt panels.
This is what I intended...
And being the math minor that I was (my freshman year in college only) I admit that I may have done the calculations wrong... Because this is what I got.
More than a circle... I always thought myself really good in Geometry too.
Meri loves the fullness of this thing! But because of the pillowcase used for the sample bodice and the see through aisle runner that I used for the skirt sample, this dress can legally be dubbed as
the ugliest dress in the world... world... world...
But the fit is perfect and Meri said GO WITH IT!!! So Sunday, we bought the fabric and I've ordered the Chantilly lace overlay because they only had a yard of the stuff in stock. I've trimmed up the hems on the sample skirt, pulled it apart and it's ready to cut into whatever I want it to.
THIS is what it will kind of look like. Well, what we're shooting for anyway.
I've figured that once the fitting of the sample dresses are done, I can knock one of these out in a weekend. And if the yard doesn't need to be mowed or dishes need to be done or house needs any cleaning or people want to eat then I'm home free! Luckily I've got a few people here to pick up the slack if I ask.
or beg.
So, is there a World Record for this sort of dress? Or an entry category in the State Fair?

I say don't beg for help, threaten them with making them wear the dress! Boys included.

is this for a prom? I am serious when is you wedding I would love to fly out and help.
The fact that you make a mock up dress just has me all kinds of amazed.
Great job and beautiful dress! I am so excited to see other people make a mock up of a dress! When we got married I sat down and drew what i wanted my dress to look like. Never mind that there was no pattern nor could we find one even close to it in the stores. We bought 5 old sheets at goodwill, I drew and cut and Mom sewed until we had exactly what I wanted. I am still kind of that way, I create fabric patterns that do not exist and nothing suits me until I find it. (Which explains what I hand painted the fabric on my dining room chair bottoms one time)
