Sewing Solo

Friday night, I don't remember what I did.  I "think" I sewed on the wedding dress.  Got caught up on an episode or so of some "together" shows that Robb and I watch.  

We're FINALLY done (as of LAST weekend) with the Suits season and wondering what could POSSIBLY happen next...  Everyone is too happy. 

One away from the final EVER episode of Grimm and a few away from the end of Walking Dead.  I think I'm going to get Robb sucked into the next season of Fargo.  Wish me luck!

Because otherwise, it will be PJ Masks season 1.

On Saturday, I spent the morning helping out at the high school for solo/ensemble contest between a bunch of area schools and ours.  I got pretty good at ordering students around and to shut up until I introduce them to the judge properly.  If they jumped the gun, I gave them the eye, then announced them anyway.  The judge thinks I'm OCD now.  Oh well.  I finally got the hang of the job by noon, when it was over. 

Meri hung out at the school all morning to see her friends perform, then she performed that afternoon.  The rooms were packed...  She sang her solo, screwed up a little, got flustered, started again and nailed it.  Because her voice was excellent, the judge gave her the best score anyway!  Meri was shocked, but that didn't stop her from being in grief for the next several hours.  

She performed with two other groups that afternoon also and I loved how their voices all sounded together.  Amazing!!  She had an opening solo in the above performance.  I didn't take the video, so it's not on youtube and I can't share it.  darn.

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon sewing.  Maddy's wedding dress is as far as I can get it without her here.  If I guess on the zipper placement, there could be trouble.  So we'll wait.  She'll be home in a couple weeks. YAY!  And I'll get the hem in then too.  It's hang-worthy now, instead of being stored in a Joann's shopping bag.

I pulled Meri's prom dress out of the pile of prom dresses that I'd purchased a few months ago at a consignment shop sale.  Not entirely sure how it got mixed up with those, but got it straightened out.  Since the girl was busy all weekend and when she WAS home, she napped on the couch, I didn't get a chance to try it on her.  I still have the zipper and hem to do for that one too.  It's hanging up now too.  Hopefully after school one day this week.  I do believe it's harder to nail her down than it is Maddy, right now...

So, with an evening that I fully intended to sew with, I sewed up a quick top out of a pattern that I created a few weeks ago for me.  I know where "I" am for fittings.  It looked terrible.  Maybe it was the fabric, I don't care...  But I wasn't going to make the same mistake that I've made for several outfits for myself before.  And it is this... "GO WITH IT!!!!  YOU LOVE HOW IT LOOKS ON THE PATTERN DESCRIPTION SO OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO LOOK FAB ON YOU!" and then it doesn't.  Typically it looks like something I found rejected in a pile in the corner of the local Salvation Army that they're about to throw into the trash..  and my tummy is too prominent...  So I kept looking.  Found another one that is simple, yet elegant.  MAYBE sleezy... Not sure.  But I know how to sew and can modest it up if need be. 

I dug in my stash and found some silky, drapey stuff to make a good wearable muslin out of.  Maybe it will be my Easter shirt, if I can find a skirt or slacks to match.  OR just wear it with jeans anywhere.  We'll see how it turns out and if it's not disgusting, I'll model for you.  Otherwise you'll never hear me mention it again.
