The last few days have been insane. Meri moved on Wednesday and Robb and I took the day off to help.
It started off with Meri picking up friends and running over something in their drive that popped two of her tires... Robb, myself and a few of her closest friends pulled them off putting the car on blocks. We had been hoping to buy a new set of tires for her car NEXT month, but isn't that just the way?...
So while Robb worked on getting her car back in working order, the rest of us went to the house and washed blinds and scrubbed a few spots on the carpet. A good bulk of the time was spent sitting around waiting for the landlord to show up because things were NOT as expected.
Lunch was eaten before a first load was hauled down from our house.
Things picked up after that. Robb and I brought stuff down and they brought at least one load in the truck. Meri was wanting to take the real heavy stuff, but we really need some bodies to get a few of those pieces moved. It'll happen... Probably this weekend. They moved at least her mattress so she'd have something to sleep on.
Instead of packing, Meri had spent the better part of the last two weeks doing a makeover on the heaviest cabinet in the world, but I love her creativity, if not her practicality. She picked up some newspapers from the 1950s and 60s
and decoupaged the headlines and articles all over it. Inside and parts of out.
I helped her with the glue spread and wrecked a paint brush or three.
It's pretty cool! But I have NO idea how it's going to get down the steps into the basement living room... I'm going to make sure I'm busy during that event.
AND Vacation Bible school was happening both evenings with a light meal beforehand. So Robb, Leon and I made our exit from "the house" and attended.
The attendance from the kids was pretty slim this year, but the adult bible study made up for it. So many families were out of town this week.
The kids loved the lessons, songs and crafts. We had some pretty cool swag for them to take home too. Leon couldn't wait to have another brat on the next night and find out what cool stuff we had plotted out for them.
Anyway, Meri had to go to work today and Ryan did too. Did I mention that Ryan is one of her roommates now? Yep, it's a coed apartment. Two other guys and a girl will move in completely by this weekend.
Leon and I are hanging out at "the house" while the maintenance guys replace the carpet in a room, where apparently, the previous owners had trapped cat for years. Ooh that smell... That plus the lingering smell of pot hit you when you open the door... It's gotten a lot better since Wednesday. Or I'm getting used to it.
The guys aren't here yet. The stinky carpet is in the garage.
When I brought Ryan here for the first time yesterday, he mused, "Hey, I think I attended a party a few doors down a while back." We came into "the house" and after Meri gave him a tour, he said, "The party was HERE!" Yep - Meri and entourage have rented THE party house of college town...
So I'm working from here and Leon is playing games on all his dad's equipment. He came upstairs a few minutes ago to spill some apple juice on the linoleum and roll on the carpet. We'll go have lunch at his dad's restaurant in a bit.
Ah - the maintenance guys are here. Lunch might be postponed.
Have a great weekend! I plan to get some sewing done tomorrow!
It won't be today.

What an exciting new adventure for Meri, and Ryan. Siblings as roommates-my kids did it for the short time my daughter was n CA, then she had the touring job, then the teaching job for summer, then the offer to stay on that didn't pan out... but they were roommates fully for three months and it went well.
The dishwasher looks gross. What is up with that. I know she is excited!
