Tuning a Tuna

My view today.

Actually at this moment, there is a piano tuner guy here tickling away on the keys while he tightens strings and tries to scare me about how often we should get it tuned.

Yikes...

I think our old family piano as I grew up was tuned once. ONCE.  And only because my eldest sister was dating a piano tuner guy.

The one at our house has never been tuned either.  I suppose when we pay zero for a piano on Freecycle, we're just happy for one that I can play Bobcat Boogie on it.  It never hindered the girls or Ryan for that matter to play their hearts out for hours on end.

But in this case, this piano really needs it.  There is one funky key that just plays *kerplunk*, surrounded by keys that have a twangy yet melodious sound to them.  I'm hoping he can get it to at least have all the keys play good octaves all the way up and Meri can practice her little heart out!

It won't be baby grand quality but that's ok.  I don't expect her to cut an album with this piano.

Well, back to work!  The sounds coming out of the piano right now are sounding more crisp and clear so I'm not worried.  Meri is going to be happy.

I hope.

I love the way a piano sounds when it is freshly tuned. At Son3's school piano tuners were there every single day tuning the pianos. He used to gripe because ours was not perfectly tuned. Shoot I have it tuned every five or so years whether it needs it or not (Cringe)

I wish we had invested in a piano. While my kids complained about their various music lessons, I think long term, playing a piano is a skill most people appreciate over their lifetime.

I never knew how much time it took to tune a piano! Of course, we got one that had plastic thingys on the inside and were heat damaged and falling apart. They were all replaced, so that may have been why it took hours! The lady did it all by ear. I was floored.
