Saturday: Look! I'm almost caught up!!!
Robb and I got up at 5:30 and started making breakfast. Found the coffee pot that we hadn't used in a year, brought the coffee in from the car and heated up the oven.
Menu items: biscuits/gravy, scrambled eggs, pancakes and some cinnamon rolls that my aunt had given me the night before. We held them back until she arrived to ensure she'd get one.
In years past, too many people would crowd the kitchen and be in the way while Robb and I hustled. So we planned ahead and moved all the counter bar stools into the dining room and made a buffet at the counter. So, they could get their food and find a place to sit. It worked out for the most part, but we need a larger coffee pot and I need to put it on the counter next year too instead of next to the sink.
We have over 500 plastic lids leftover from Maddy and Matthew's wedding but Sam's club didn't sell that size cup anymore. I had found them on Amazon and they arrived Friday. JUST in time! We served all the coffee in them and put the lids on right away. That way they can have some coffee for the drive home and we don't lose any of our mugs! ;)
A nephew-in-law and a cousin's kids played football in the back yard for a while to work off a little energy before their 3 hours drives home. Worked out pretty slick.
After everyone trickled out, all that was left was me, my sister Tammy and her son and his family. They were staying an extra day. Robb took Leon to his mom's and Tammy and I washed up all the dishes. I think we used every dish/pot/pan in the house...
Then Scott and Amanda did a little shopping by themselves while Tammy took a nap and I played Legos with Skyler and her brother.
Alden found a firetruck in Leon's toys that makes a LOT of noise and we joked about sending it back with him...
I don't remember what we ate but everything had leftovers in it. The cars were unloaded and all our Thanksgiving supplies filtered back into the house. Or were stacked in the hallway ready to be packed away. It'll happen.
I had planned on putting up the Christmas tree, but with the lack of sleep that I had the night before, my energy was drained. A nap would have been nice, but I wouldn't have woken til the next morning, so that's out.
Meri came up for supper and we all played Say Anything. Skyler even played along! And while Leon had used the word Poop for every one of his answers when he played with us a few weeks ago, Skyler's word of the day was Kiss.
The question was,
"how can a man impress a woman?"
"how can a man impress a woman?"
LOL! Those guys crack me up.
Amanda had picked up facial masks for all of us, but Robb was having no part of it.
The rest of us did tho
and enjoyed looking like freaks!
Yes, this is me...
Or beautiful creatures...
The gold ones looked awesome!
I am reminded of the movie Goldfinger...
During the night, Tammy and Amanda got sick. We figured it was the same flu-like symptoms that Dad had from Friday. We're a huggy bunch, so I wasn't surprised. I just waited for me to get it. No go yet... I need to hug more people... Even Robb felt a little ill on Monday! I cannot believe he hugged more people than me so maybe that's not the only way to catch something.
The next morning, in order to beat the impending blizzard, they all left super early. Robb got up even earlier and made a breakfast casserole out of leftover gravy from Saturday. I just finished the leftovers of that yesterday. YUM...
After church and after picking up Leon, Meri came over and she and I got the tree together. There were drifts of green bits of fave pine needles on the floor once we were done. yuck. If we continue to use this tree, it'll be just a few more years and we'll be setting up plain sticks. I guess that's when our "airing of grievances" holiday will kick in.
It was Monday or Tuesday before the leg lamp made it's appearance.
Our furnace died yesterday and the furnace guy loved the leg lamp! Not too many people know where it's from... So to some, I think we probably look pervy.
It's a major award!
Have a great weekend!

There is a neighborhood not far from me and whenever a new neighbor moves in the neighbors give them a housewarming gift of a leg lamp. Every year on Thanksgiving night the leg lamps appear in the front windows of every house in the neighborhood. It is a very cool Christmas tradition.
