Do you know how awkward it is to buy supplies to line a coffin for your mother?
Or probably any coffin for that matter...
I think the ladies at both Joann's and Walmart thought I had a sick sense of humor...
I should have just said "quilt".
I pulled out my ruffler contraption for my sewing machine as I was loathe to gather 360 inches of eggnog satin by hand. As it stands, the ruffler piece wasn't working very well with my sewing machine, so the parts of the coffin past the waist will not be ruffled. I think the ruffler works best on my Brother but that one needs some work done on it and I have a deadline, so to speak...
So far, I have the ruffled parts ready with a thin ribbon of fabric at the top of it. The part with covered lace to drape over the edge of the area where the head will be isn't sewn onto the ruffled part yet. I want to be there to make sure I measure correctly for the corner.
I still have the pillow and pad to cover.
I plan to go tomorrow to get the work done on it. My sister had the coffin moved down lower so I can reach it. I bought a new staple gun as I can't put my hands on my old one. It's somewhere...
The cover part will need to be lined as well and I plan to incorporate ribbon criss cross to tuck in old photos. Mom loves her memories in photos. I do too.
And I need to make a wide satin scarf type thing to drape across the top but I can't really do that without measuring that part. So my machine will come too.
Making a mental list of what to bring... When I need a break, I'll run see Mom and Dad.
Enjoy your weekend and make it matter!
