Every Girl Is A Princess

Have you ever heard of Princess Peggy dolls?

Neither had I before our American Sewing Guild (ASG) meeting last Saturday.

The presenter is an avid collector of Princess Peggy memorabilia and it was fascinating.

Back around 1900, the Princess Peggy company began in Illinois to produce fashionable cotton house dresses.  Women were hired and it was very prosperous for them.  They also made doll dresses to show off what the house dresses looked like that those were the dolls on display in the department stores.  The full sized women's dresses sold for $1 at the beginning and later a few dollars more.

They started branching out and made aprons.

Later, more fashionable dresses.  The designer would scout runway shows in New York and come back with more ideas for them to make.

I'm kind of liking this skirt over a pair of shorts idea.  However probably not as poofy, for the cruise!

But around the 50s and 60s, women started wearing pants more and the company decided not to go that route and eventually went away.

The presenter had samples of dresses that she'd found over the years as well as tons of the mini display mannequins.  It was a lot of fun and I came away with a lot of fabric from the free tables.

Don't I always??.. :)
