Cy-turday

Went to my first garage sale of the summer on Saturday!!!  Yeah... The middle of August...
I've been too busy all the other Saturdays to hit ANY!

It was a friend from church who has a boy in my Sunday School class.  He had some great clothes and they were priced in the .25 - $1 range.  PERFECT...  Stocked Leon up for this year and probably next if I remember where I put the 4T items that I bought...

Ryan, Maddy, Meri and Leon came with me and Leon had a blast trying out Ethan's "lawn mower".  He didn't know how to turn the wheel, so when he got to a fence, he hopped off and redirected it manually by picking up the front or back and dragging it around.  He'll need to get that figured out before I let him on MY rider.

After that bonanza of a garage sale, the kids and I went to the local farmers market downtown.  It was a regular festival of booths, blocking off two whole blocks.  I hadn't been to it since it's ginormous expansion, since the kids were little.  So many goodies and produce!  We found fancy cupcakes, poppyseed breads, veggies, garlic, leeks, honey and even some gluten free blueberry muffins for my niece who just realized that might be what's causing her issues.

I just need to figure out how to make gluten free pizza dough for her now...

At one of the booths, I found some Indian Samosa.  OH YUM... That was good!  I have no idea what was in the sauce that came with it, but yummy.

Leon got to see Cy and went to him with outstretched arms.  Too cute!

I don't know where Leon will go to college someday, but for now he's a Cy-clone!

Lookee what she found!

Last weekend after dropping off my State fair entries, Maddy, Leon and I stopped at a Thrift store in Des Moines.  While I checked out the $2 jeans, she found this for $10!

The top is a little crushed in places and she asked if I know how to fix wicker....  No amount of Pinterest will teach me that...  So she later found a framed picture to place on top and use as the coffee table top.  We had originally thought to remove the wicker lid, attach the metal gear for looks and then attach the picture to the base, but she liked the idea of hinges.

Also, her dorm room is on the 4th floor this year, so this will go up in pieces.  THEN we'll attach it with duct tape so when the picture is lifted, so is the lid.

You just can't put your feet on it....
oh well... That's not good manners anyway.

Thrifted Treasures

I'm gonna pop some tabs!

Should it bother me that my girls know the words to a song that has terrible lyrics?  They don't say the BAD words when they're singing it to me...  And apparently they know a pseudo-Christian version of it that they found on Youtube.

The lyrics are funny unless the singer is serious...

"I"m gonna go to church, Only got 20 minutes til the service.  I saved a puppy, gonna tithe my money, I'm an awesome Christian!"  Video below if you want a laugh!

Yeah... That Christian has some serious 'splainin' to do...  Because he's sounding pretty self-righteous... :\

Anyway, when the girls and I hit our city-wide garage sales last weekend, Maddy hit the jackpot and I can't remember if she found this book for 25 cents or if it was in a free box, but she got new music to pound on the piano with!

When she's bored, she'll sit at the piano and sight-read music and you cannot believe how many times I've caught myself singing along with oldies from Singing In The Rain (we happen to have the whole book of songs from that musical)!  "Good Morning, Good morning!  We've talked the whole night through, good morning, good morning to you!"  I used to sing it to the kids as "You've slept the whole night through".  It's one of Maddy's favorite movies.

But now she has some new stuff to play and the music is really gorgeous!  There are so many old old old songs that I'd never heard of in this book.  I think I'd only heard of 1 or 2...  There are songs from the movie/play Carmen in it as well as lots of others.  It's thick...  The words are with the songs and once in a while Meri will sing along while Maddy plays.

The other night I was in the kitchen with Robb and we heard them playing from the book and singing together.  It was one of those ideal moments that you have to stop and savor, capturing it in your heart.

Because we're going to miss that in the fall when she heads off to college.

Yeah, I'm crying right now...
