A party! A party! But no pony.

Pre-birthday dinner:
I made Maddy's all time favorite meal for her dinner. Homemade chicken noodle soup. We're weird that way. My other daughter asks for canned Raviolis. My husband, chicken cacciatore and my son,... hmmm.. I don't remember. It changes each year. Probably most prevalent is for us to leave him alone...

So anyway, I'm busy making dinner, right?! The chicken has been in the crock pot all day and there is lots of fresh broth, chicken, noodles, etc going into it. So I'm barefoot and cooking in the kitchen... *I think that's the phrase used*

Meri was frantically finishing a handmade card at the kitchen counter and then took up close and personal pics of the older two.

Ryan and Maddy were playing cowboys and indians at the dining room table. Yep. Old fashioned cowboys and indians with teeny tiny "guys" that Maddy got as a birthday gift from a friend at school.

They started out their play simply. But then needed more landscape and complications in their fighting.Ryan tried to bring back the days when he played Barbies with her and just had his little guys saying only "Hi!" He kind of sucked at Barbies...Arguing over whether the indian had a dart blowing thing or an actual gun. Ryan is insisting only bushmen in Africa had the dart blowing capabilities and Maddy arguing otherwise. They had to take it to Dad to have him decide what it was. *gun*After dinner:
Maddy opened her presents from us all and then I brought out the cake. It is a Sour Cream Chocolate fudge cake from my good old 22 year old Better Homes and Garden cookbook. Turned out pretty good. However I had no candles to put on it. I dug around in a drawer and found a purple Advent candle. She likes purple...It kind of looked like a stick of dynamite in it. But it worked. A friend came over to share in the cake and ice cream. She brought her "baby" that she is in charge of until tomorrow for class. We sang Happy Birthday and Maddy is NOW officially 16. She gets to celebrate Birthday Tide until January!

In Iowa, we get our driver's permits at 14 and get to give our parents a good scare for 2 years until drivers ed and finally our licenses at 16.

Thanks for all your birthday wishes for her yesterday! She definitely felt the love!

That purple candle made me laugh! but then we don't have any birthday candles here either. But I do have a wide assortment of seasona' candles that has ghosts, cornacopias, and smells like grass..
permit since 14? It was hard enough riding with them for the 6 months that I had to!

Oh geez, I LOVE that purple candle! LOL
And birthdaytide...wow. I wish we did that! Except that my son's birthday is right after mine so it wouldn't last.
