Yep, that means no baby this weekend... And I think the Mom-to-be has sort of given up on the baby ever being born.
That's a good tactic actually...
I use it all the time around the house. When you've been looking for something for a long time, then just give up and buy a new one. Then open the packaging just enough so that you can't take it back. That's the time the thing you've been searching for pops up. Or out in this case.
I don't think she's truly given up yet... So that may be why it's taking longer.
Anywho... Maddy took a good long look at prom dresses and evening gowns online on Saturday and found the perfect dress for us to mimic this year for prom. It costs almost $8000!
She wouldn't even LOOK at dresses less than one thousand. So Saturday night, she and I went to JoAnn Fabrics and found some material that we're going to use for this project. The fabric cost just under $50. WHAT a savings!!! But I'm thinking the real cost for this will be my time.The challenge that "I" thought she'd chosen for this dress was the bodice and how it's all ruched up. But nope. This dress will have two challenges. Because you always have to top the one from the year before... Apparently we've set a precedent and she said that all her friends would be disappointed if I didn't make a more fabulous dress than last year. I'm suddenly wondering what on earth I'll be making for her Senior prom dress next year! A wedding gown?...
I don't know.
The second challenge for this dress... I don't remember if I'd told you about the fabric embellishment class that I missed a couple weeks ago on the day of the baby shower. Maybe I did... But Maddy went in my place with Meri and learned all about silk screening. She had told a gal there that she wanted to silk screen her prom dress this year.
Maddy was serious.
So we bought gobs and gobs (that's Iowan for yards) of yellow silky fabric and some sheer. During the course of this week and the weekend, I'm going to practice with stenciling and/or silk screening fabric to get the design she wants for this dress.
This should be challenging. No?!

I can't wait to see what it looks like! Silk screening...sounds like a chore but I bet it looks awesome.

As for the dress, I love the style, just not the fabric. Sorry, but it looks like it was dragged through the mud while twisting into knots :o/

Thank goodness I'm not in charge of the dress cuz I would just wrap her in material and staple it in certain areas. Tell her she is blessed to have you. If she was my child, well she would look like a knot.

Beautiful dress! I think fabric painting could be so fun. I'm curious to know how it works on poly (if it's from Joann's, I assume it's poly LOL). I thought it could only be done on silk.
