Sewing... What's that?
The dress that I made for Meri to wear to the church Christmas program was a bust. Actually too big in the bust because the fabric was stretchy... And it needs boning. The lace overdress was gorgeous but she decided she didn't want the side zipper because it made her look "hippy" she said. Also the lace was just stretchy enough that she doesn't need it. So I've got some work to do on that...
Needless to say, she hasn't worn it publicly yet.
Haven't had a chance to pull out my sewing machine since the day after Christmas, when I whipped up a set of matching pillowcases for my nephews wedding gift.
I had put it off... Imagine that!
I cut the fabric out and handed it to my mom who was worrying over the iron. While she ironed the first piece, I cut out more pieces and changed thread color. The pillowcases were deep red with silver stripy fabric for part of the border, the wedding colors.
My dad, drinking coffee, sat in amazement and just said, when we got done, "I didn't know you could sew like that!"
I'm not exactly sure what he meant... Did I really impress him with the rotary cutter or did I break some law of physics that I'm not aware of?
Probably the physics thing.
Anyway, I didn't get a picture of the pillowcases. Let's just say they were gorgeous and move on.
I hope to dig out the machine tomorrow over lunch or after dinner. I've got a sewing meeting this weekend and I'm itching to sew a little bit before then! Even if it's just to stitch back on some buttons on the kids coats so I can get MY coat back from one of them....
Anyway, I'll leave you with a pic of a monkey on my son's back.

Your dad was probably surprised that you whipped out gorgeous pillowcases so quickly. If people aren't around you a lot to know your sewing skill level, you can impress the heck out of them sometimes. LOL!
I used to love hearing, "You MADE that?!" Not that I have heard it in a while.
Sewing on a button is a major feat for me and I really hate to dig out the sewing box! lol I am impressed, totally, by your talent!
Love the picture of Leon! Pillowcases are such a great idea, I have three wedding showers in the next three months. Would you mind telling me how you made them since I think they would be a great gift!!
It's always a good day when you impress your daddy.
Cute pic of the boys much better than pillowcases.
Ha! I can just imagine your dad watching you go in super-speed and just sitting there in awe.
