Crash the Casbah

Went to the high school orientation with Meri last night.  After about 4.5 speeches by various people about how to handle the care and feeding of a computer, the lap top rollout occurred.  100 students were trying to log in on their laptops at EXACTLY the same time and it brought the school network down to a crawl...

It took forever for many to log in, Meri included.

She almost missed her tour of the building, but I had her write down her password and sent her off while I waited for her laptop to catch up with the rest of them.  I wanted her to know where she was supposed to be on Thursday and not get lost.

As soon as half of the students, either gave up or succeeded, they took off on their tours and suddenly I was able to log her in!  A miracle!!!

Then another mother and myself took off to find the kids group.

I'd been on the tour 2 other times and this one was a whirlwind tour as well as the past ones.

Gotta run.  Another day another dollar.  Have a good one!

I always find it odd that the people that set these things up don't realize that they are making a problem and not helping things run smoothly. Ball state orientation was a mess. And these people are supposed to be smarter than me?

You think Ball State was bad....Noah still doesn't have a finalized schedule....you know, the one he was suppose to get at orientation back on July 17th.
I still can't buy his books because of this and I am sure all the used copies(cheaper books)are gone by now.

The only thing that makes these overeducated talking heads smarter than you is because they have the tenured jobs and hold sway over our kids. Ridiculous!

Just returning from my second day of schedules and fees, I'm pooped! Son#1, a junior, had fun catching up with friends while we awaited in long lines. Brilliant idea by Asst. Principal: all upperclassmen books were placed in students' assigned lockers last week. We only had to pick up schedules & pay fees.
Son#2, freshman, had very long lines & a pile of books to hold while waiting to pay fees. Ack!

Happy School Year to you & yours! :) We start tomorrow.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've had to leave work and run home so that I could get work done and couldn't do it at work thanks to the crappy internet. BUT at the same time, we are suppose to be using technology more and more in the classroom. Sad viscous cycle.......
