Impulsivity Falls

I saw a photo of Matthew on FB showing him in a parade promoting a community play, so I PMed him asking about it.  He replied that he was in a play coming up that weekend AND advertising for the playhouse Halloween thing coming up in October.

hmmm.....  I told Robb about it and suddenly a plan was hatched.

Wouldn't it freak Matthew out if we just showed up?!  hmmm...
Wouldn't it also freak out Maddy if we texted her a selfie of us with Matthew?!  hmmm...

We thought about it for about half a day and after we got Ryan's work schedule decided that it was a GO!

So Friday afternoon, we both took off a little early from work, kissed Leon and said ciao bella to Ryan and headed north for 3 hours.  Got there an hour early.  We had to have some "getting lost" time calculated in because Robb had one address for the place and I had another.  I was right.

I went into the community center to buy our tickets and the two at the table acted like they were shocked to see me.  "Now HOW did you find out about this play?"  ummmm, FB?  And my daughter is dating one of the guys in the group...  "AHHH! You must mean Matt."  ????  Dang!  He's good!  Apparently only a few young men in the play were single, so he took a stab at it.

So we went to Hardees and got some supper before the play.  As we're waiting in line, the couple ahead of us kept turning around and staring.
WHAT makes us look so much like out of towners???!

"You're Maddy's parents right?"

DANG!

We can't even SNEAK into this town without people knowing who we are!!

The couple turned out to be good friend's of Matthew's family and actually met us at the Christmas concert.

Oh. Hi!

So anyway, we made it back to the play and took our chairs.  We were somewhat early still but the place was filling up.  When we were in Ireland, years ago, I had the taken the girls one night to a community play in Kilmallock.  We had seen it advertised when picking up some fried chicken for a picnic.  Robb and Ryan stayed at the cottage.

From the Irish play, the young lady singing had balloons in her dress
and singing a Dolly Parton song. hilarious...

We definitely felt like outsiders at that play too and probably looked it.  NOBODY knew us and the humor in the skits sometimes went over our heads as a lot were inside jokes or we didn't understand what they were saying due to their accents and sometime speaking in Gaelic.

That feeling came rushing back for just a split second but then the play started and all was cool.
Whew!  It's just Minnesotan!

Matthew was in the very first scene doing some warm ups!  So I took a few pics.

It was an evening of song.  So many great songs performed that I wish I could have sung along with!  For a couple, they encouraged the audience to sing along!  There was Popular from Wicked, Songs from Les Mis, Grease and even a barbershop quartet made up of guys from Maddy and Matthew's college.  Wow they were good!

At the intermission, we stayed seated and Matthew's sister saw us and rushed over. She had been contemplating if those were the backs of our heads or not, the entire first act. and yep!

During the second act, Matthew had a performance of his own!  When I was in my tiny church school, we put on a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta EVERY year.  I had been in the Mikado, Alibaba & the 40 thieves, HMS Pinafore & Pirates of Pensance.  Well, Matthew performed an awesome rendition from the last one.

I am the very model of a modern major general.  Below.

Wasn't he great?!

After the show, he came down to us and was surprised we'd made the trip.  I'm so glad we did!

We got selfies to text to Maddy immediately.

And her replies were "WHA???"  "When???"  "How??"  or something like that.  It's always good to shock a person when they're sitting at a campfire, because who KNOWS what can happen...
Like her stepping on someone.

Unfortunately we could only visit for a very short time.  It was past 10pm already and we still had a 3 hour drive home.  So we gave our hugs goodbye and headed out.

With car food and drinks, we stayed awake and talked the entire way home.  You know you're reaching to stay awake when you're asking each other "What movies did you love in the 70s?"  "What was your favorite toy as a child?" and discuss...

Yep - DEEP questions.

So anyway, we slept in on Saturday until 7!

Well, for me anyway, Robb was up early because he just does that.
