Nonspecific Monday

I can't believe it's Christmas Monday! I think I'm finally gettin' coming down with something. I'll keep the Kleenex handy I guess...

Anyone notice the Christmas music on the radio lately!!??!!! As predicted last year, Maddy was driving when she noticed it and almost drove off the road in her excitement. Then had to drive VERY carefully the rest of the way home because a policeman noticed her antics and followed her...

I made 3 scarves over the weekend that I found on Pinterest. Super easy and super cute. Meri was in a bum-my mood this morning so I let her wear the black & white one to school. She's happy now. If you're on Pinterest, look me up! I'm Val Mc. Tutorials: Scarf 1, Scarf 2, Scarf 3.
This is not the one that I made, but similar. Meri took it to school so I didn't get a picture. The directions are all in German, but the pictures make it easy to understand.
Meri tested for her Black Belt yesterday and wasn't able to break her 2nd board. So she's not going to advance for now. The other student passed, we think... So she'll probably be on her own with her form until January when she can test again. She was pretty upset but was greatly relieved when I told her about January.Robb led the Veteran's into the middle school program on Friday morning with his bagpipes. After a false start and due to the cold weather, the pipes weren't cooperating so he had to stop a few times during the procession and adjust the drones. The last verse of Scotland The Brave sounded awesome!!! He figured he didn't want to disrespect our nations heroes with If You Think I'm Sexy... He'll save that for another gig.Maddy's high school play was this weekend and we saw it on Friday night. She was a stage manager so we didn't see her until the end when she was autographing middle school kids programs. Middle school kids get extra credit for certain classes if they attend high school events. I had Maddy autograph my hand with her permanent magic marker and it took several hand washings to get it out by Sunday morning...

Some of you know this already.... but I'm going to be a grandmother this spring! I guess the gray hairs my son gave me when he turned 16 was to prepare me to look the part for this next chapter in my life. I've been practicing my famous baby football hold with any baby I can get my hands on... Some mothers are avoiding me now.

On Saturday night, I went on a mini road trip with a great friend that I so rarely see anymore since she moved to the next town 6 miles away. We just went to Pier 1 Imports and Lowes, but it might as well have been a Thelma & Louise vacation. We almost died a few times on the highway from our laughing. I haven't laughed so hard in years! We were attacked by a cat that we thought had a plastic bag over it's head, but apparently it was a chips bag and it was eating dinner... Well.. We cut down on litter anyway, if not saving the angry cat's life.

Maddy was feeling ill on Sunday night so instead of going to the cross country end of season awards program, we watched The Blues Brothers on Netflix, her, Robb & I. It was a blast! My toe is still tapping. Ah John Belushi... We miss you.

Well... Back to the old grind of work. Spending my lunch hour with a friend and may get more sewing done tonight.

How was your weekend?

Prom & Other ways to fill a weekend.

It was a long, quick weekend. I can't believe it's Monday already...

Saturday I attended my mission rally about 2 hours away. On the way there and back I did the hand sewing on that little dress I told you about. It's not done yet... Talked my friend who was driving into ducking out early with me so I could catch Maddy being picked up by her boyfriend for prom. Got there just in time and took pics. Was able to take a little bit of a breather and then went over a pattern that Tiffany wanted to make with me. Her 6 month anniversary with my son is this Wednesday and she wanted to wear something special. So I supervised while she cut it out and sewed the shoulder seams at the lowest speed on my machine. That freaked her out so I did the side seams. It's going to look very pretty and will look very much, even in color to this. We skipped the pockets for speediness... We're almost done!Maddy's group of 17 kids had taken a party bus to a city about an hour away for dinner. They'd gotten back and the boutonniere had been lost so Maddy improvised. I'll tell you the story another time. It's kind of funny and involves an air blowing machine and a cooler...Meri and a friend as well as myself parked without permission at a friends house and went to the Grand March and got to see my little girl get announced with her date and walk in. We got to take pics later before they went out to the place where the dance was going to be.There was an after prom party back at the high school and then some entertainment for them. Now Maddy thinks all hypnotists are fake... And that's ok by me!

Oh! and get this! Rumors had been going around that she'd made her own prom dress. Maybe she will next year.

She got home just before 5am. We woke her up at 8 for church, then she came home to nap.

After church Meri and I went to a dying class. Not the kind you think! We learned how to dye different types of fabrics!! It was great fun and pretty messy, but Meri is inspired now to dye that silk wedding gown and making a party dress out of it now. Not that she GOES to parties much... but it's always nice to have one on hand in case you're asked at the last minute to a black tie affair...

About half way through the class I got a call from my son who had stopped by the house. He's moving to a different apartment this weekend and needed a car. Apparently Grandma was really sick. The sickest he's ever seen her and he was concerned. So Meri & I packed things up and headed home. She was pretty sick. I won't go too far into details, but we ended up taking her to the emergency room at 9pm last night. She's at the hospital now until probably tomorrow with pneumonia plus.

So anyway... It's Monday. The girls are feeling crumby and I actually kept Meri home today. Maddy was feeling yucky too, but if she skips school, one of her friends will kill her if she misses the band concert tonight.

Sigh... Life is a rush, isn't it?

Waiting to be rushed

Today is going to be an interesting day.

Today I am sitting waiting and looking at my phone.

Today, very soon, I'll get a call from a co-worker to start a major project.

Today, I'll have to work fast on this project.

Today, I will pushed to my very limits workwise.

Today, hopefully I'll get a lunch.

Today, I hope to finish an outfit that I started last night.

Today, I need to decide what to give to a nephew and his bride this weekend. Any ideas? Probably money, huh?

Today, I need to order contacts for one of my girls.

Today is rainy.

Tonight, I'm going to sleep sound.

Random Monday Mentionables

It's been a weird weekend. I hope you all had a great Mother's Day! Mine was fairly comparable to the tv show, The Middle's Mother Day episode... But Saturday was great! I spent the whole morning sewing with no one home. Well, my son was, but he didn't wake up until noon. Spent the afternoon lounging with my favorite mag, napped an hour or so, watched the Quiet Man with Meri and then went on to dinner with my hubby!

I got a skirt done that I wore to church on Sunday, then found out that I'd blown off a church ladies meeting on Saturday morning... I was WONDERING why I hadn't planned on going to my daughter's band thing...

I DID get breakfast in bed on Mother's Day and think my family is trying to fatten me up for something... The meal was huge. 15 courses... Son just lay at the foot of the bed being tired and the girls just helped me out a little with it all. I think I ate most of it myself! Is that bad?
At night when I'm trying to go to sleep, all of the sudden my heart starts racing. What's up with that?! If I have to give up salt... I don't KNOW what!! Maybe it's just stress from last week and the weekend.

Watched some classic Father Ted this weekend and can't stop giggling over one bit.
Episode name, Night of the Nearly Dead. Situation: A young man who has his own tv show and is adored by elderly women everywhere is leaving a building and is suddenly mobbed by 100s of them. He backs towards the door saying, "Stay away! I don't want to catch the menopause!" LOL! I didn't know it was catching!

What is the average age to "catch" menopause? And what are the symptoms? Racing hearts at bedtime? Hmm.. That would be a great title for a movie, huh? But it's probably not what you'd think.

I went and shared my career with my 4th graders class this morning. I don't think any of them want to do what I do. There were too many glassed over blank stares. One child asked how much I make! After being flabbergasted for just a moment, a teacher clarified... Salaried or hourly? Whew! I didn't want the kids laughing at me...

I hope you all had a marvelous Mother's Day and didn't have to lift a finger on your special day!
